MARITIME TRANSPORT, CONTAINS EMISSIONS AND CONTRIBUTES TO THE FIGHT AGAINST THE CLIMATE CRISIS
A new study, commissioned by the European environmental association IMO for the protection of the seas “Seas At Risk” and entitled “The state of shipping & oceans”, sheds light on the harmful impact of the maritime industry. This study was released on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the International Convention for the Prevention of Pollution from Ships (MARPOL), which is the main international legal instrument to address the environmental impact of international maritime transport. As governments around the world gather at the IMO in London to discuss a new climate strategy for shipping, the report denounces the failure of past efforts
to contain the sector’s negative impact on climate.
