EC President Ursula von der Leyen to be Maersk methanol feeder vessel godmother
The 2,100 teu, 172-metre, Danish-flagged vessel will be named at a ceremony in Copenhagen on September 14 before joining its route in the Baltic Sea. While in Copenhagen, the vessel will be the centrepiece of a range of events highlighting decarbonisation in the maritime industry, said Maersk.
As Maersk works towards its decarbonisation milestones, the new feeder vessel will bring hands-on operational experience for its crews with green methanol as a fuel and the new engines. The company’s larger methanol-fuelled container ships are set to join the fleet from 2024.
